【摘要】:Themetallurgicalpropertiesofmagnesiumanditsalloysarehighlydependantonchemicalcomposition.Preciseandaccurateanalysesareessentialtoobtainingdesiredproperties,meetingcustomerspecificationsandhelpingtoreducescrapduetooff-gradematerial.ThistestmethodisapplicabletochillcastspecimensasdefinedinPracticeB953andcanalsobeappliedtoothertypesofsamplesprovidedthatsuitablereferencematerialsareavailable.1.1Thistestmethoddescribestheanalysisofmagnesiumanditsalloysbyatomicemissionspectrometry.Themagnesiumspecimentobeanalyzedmaybeintheformofachillcastdisk,casting,sheet,plate,extrusionorsomeotherwroughtformorshape.Theelementscoveredinthescopeofthismethodarelistedinthetablebelow.Note1Theconcentrationrangesgivenintheabovescopeareestimatesbasedontwomanufacturersobservationsanddataprovidedbyasupplierofatomicemissionspectrometers.Therangeshownforeachelementdoesnotdemonstratetheactualusableanalyticalrangeforthatelement.Theusableanalyticalrangemaybeextendedhigherorlowerbasedonindividualinstrumentcapability,spectralcharacteristicsofthespecificelementwavelengthbeingusedandtheavailabilityofappropriatereferencematerials.1.2ThistestmethodissuitableprimarilyfortheanalysisofchillcastdisksasdefinedinSamplingPracticeB953.Otherformsmaybeanalyzed,providedthat:(1)theyaresufficientlymassivetopreventundueheating,(2)theyallowmachiningtoprovideaclean,flatsurfacewhichcreatesasealbetweenthespecimenandthesparkstand,and(3)referencematerialsofasimilarmetallurgicalcondition(spectrochemicalresponse)andchemicalcompositionareavailable.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.SpecificsafetyandhealthstatementsaregiveninSection10.
